Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children - Yami No Sho is the GBA follow-up to the original Devil Children, though you might know it better as Demikids if you played the North American release (which got split into Dark and Light versions). It's got that classic SMT vibe—you're recruiting demons, fusing them into stronger monsters, and trying not to get wrecked by random encounters.
Right off the bat, you pick a starter demon (I went with the imp because, well, imps are little troublemakers and I respect that). The battles are turn-based but quick, and the demon designs are weird in the best way—some look like they crawled out of a medieval nightmare, others like they belong in a Saturday morning cartoon. The fusion system isn’t as deep as mainline SMT, but it’s still fun to experiment and see what weird combos you can cook up.
If you’re into monster-collecting RPGs and don’t mind some old-school GBA jank, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect Persona-level storytelling—it’s more about the demon-battling chaos.
