SD Battle Oozumou is one of those weird, charming NES wrestling games where everything feels slightly off in the best way. You pick from a roster of chunky, super-deformed wrestlers—some are samurai, others look like they wandered in from a sentai show—and just start tossing each other around. The controls are simple (grab, throw, jump), but the physics are hilariously unpredictable. One second you're slamming someone into the mat, the next you're both bouncing off the ropes like overcaffeinated sumo wrestlers.
What really makes it stand out is the sheer absurdity. Matches can turn into chaotic scrambles where nobody really knows what's happening, and that's half the fun. The pixel art has this rough, early-90s charm, and the crowd sprites in the background are just these tiny, barely animated blobs cheering you on. It's not deep, but it's the kind of game you fire up when you want something silly to play with a friend for 20 minutes.
Also, yes, the title screen is in Japanese, but you don't need to read anything to enjoy the nonsense. Just mash buttons and see what happens.
