Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call is one of those games that makes you feel like a detective—if detectives spent half their time solving random logic puzzles. You start off in the sleepy town of Misthallery, where rumors of a ghostly spectre have everyone spooked. Naturally, the professor and his apprentice Luke roll up to investigate, and before long, you’re knee-deep in riddles, hidden objects, and townsfolk with suspiciously convoluted problems.
The puzzles are the real star here—some are straightforward, others make you stare at the DS screen like it’s personally insulting you. I remember one where you had to rearrange matchsticks to form a shape, and I swear I spent 10 minutes before realizing the solution was stupidly simple. The story’s got that classic Layton charm too, with just enough twists to keep you guessing without feeling cheated.
If you like your mysteries with a side of brain teasers (and maybe a little frustration), this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t blame me when you start seeing puzzles in your sleep.
