Pocket Bomberman is one of those Game Boy games that somehow makes blowing yourself up fun. You start in these tight little maze levels, dropping bombs to clear paths and take out enemies—but half the time, you misjudge the blast radius and end up hopping away at the last second. The controls are simple (just move and plant bombs), but the chaos ramps up fast.
What surprised me was how much strategy sneaks in. Some blocks take multiple bombs to break, enemies get faster, and later levels force you to chain explosions just to survive. The pixel art’s got that classic Bomberman charm, and the music sticks in your head way longer than it should. If you’ve ever played the SNES version, this feels like a stripped-down but still frantic little sibling.
Fair warning: You’ll probably yell at the screen when you trap yourself in a corner. But that’s part of the fun.
