I first played Bomberman Collection on the original Game Boy, a compilation that brought together several of Hudson Soft's earlier titles. It arrived during a time when portable gaming was defined by simple, repetitive action, and this collection fit right in. The package included a few different modes, but they all revolved around the same core idea of placing bombs to clear a path.

You control Bomberman, a little character in a maze-like arena. Your main goal is to blow up obstacles and enemies with the bombs you place. The signature mechanics are laying bombs that explode after a short timer and then dodging the blast radius. You can also collect power-ups that increase your blast length or let you lay more bombs at once. The pacing is quick, with each screen presenting a new, self-contained puzzle of destruction. It feels satisfying to chain explosions together and clear a stage efficiently.
