PD Ultraman Battle Collection 64 is one of those weird, Japan-only N64 fighting games that somehow slipped under the radar. You pick from a roster of Ultraman heroes (and villains, if you're feeling spicy) and duke it out in these chunky, low-poly 3D arenas. The controls take a second to get used to—expect a lot of beam spamming and awkward jumps at first—but once it clicks, there's something oddly satisfying about wrestling giant monsters as a glowing space cop.
It’s definitely rough around the edges—some of the animations are stiff, and the camera fights you more than the actual enemies. But if you grew up watching Ultraman or just love obscure N64 oddities, there’s charm in its jank. The stages are destructible, which is always fun, and landing a perfectly timed Specium Ray feels way more hype than it should. Just don’t expect a polished arena fighter like Power Stone—this is pure late-'90s Japanese arcade chaos.
Honestly, half the appeal is laughing at how absurd some of the special moves look in blocky N64 graphics. Ultraman’s flying kick has no business being that dramatic.
