Metal Slug 7 on the DS is basically the same chaotic, over-the-top run-and-gun action you love, just crammed into a tiny screen. You’ll still mow down waves of enemies with ridiculous weapons, hop into tanks that explode after three hits, and watch your character turn into a waddling meatball if they eat too much. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well on the DS, though sometimes the explosions get so wild it’s hard to tell what’s even happening—but that’s kind of the charm.
It’s got all the usual Metal Slug insanity: zombies, aliens, bosses that take up half the screen. The new weapon-switching mechanic is a nice touch, though I still mostly just spammed the heavy machine gun. If you’ve played any Metal Slug before, you know exactly what you’re getting here—just portable. And yeah, it’s still brutally hard in that classic arcade way where you’ll burn through continues like candy.
Perfect for short bursts on the bus or when you just want to blow stuff up without thinking too hard.
