MegaMan Star Force: Pegasus came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that wave of DS games that really used both screens, and it felt like a natural evolution from the Battle Network series, moving the action into a more three-dimensional space.

You control Geo Stelar, a kid who gains the ability to merge with an alien wave being named Omega-Xis to become MegaMan. Your main goal is to stop a mysterious wave of viruses and an organization called the FM-ians. The core of the game is split between exploring the real world from a top-down perspective, talking to people, and triggering events. When you encounter an enemy on the field map, the game shifts to a 3D battle grid. Combat is turn-based but active; you select attack cards from a custom folder and then have a few seconds to freely aim and fire. You are constantly managing your card library, seeking out better chips and building a powerful deck for the frequent boss fights. The pacing is brisk, with regular battles and puzzle-filled dungeons that require you to use new wave-changing abilities to progress. It feels like a fast-paced, tactical card battler layered over a solid adventure game.
