Lufia II is one of those SNES RPGs that somehow flew under the radar compared to the heavy hitters like Final Fantasy, but man, it holds up. You play as Maxim, this blue-haired swordsman who gets roped into fighting these god-like beings called the Sinistrals—classic "save the world" stuff, but the way the story unfolds actually makes you care.
What really stuck with me were the dungeons. They’re packed with these Zelda-style puzzles where you’re pushing blocks, flipping switches, and sometimes just staring at the screen going, "Okay, how the hell do I get that chest?" The combat’s turn-based but with a twist—your special attacks use IP, which builds up as you take hits. Makes fights way more tactical than just spamming "Attack."
And the music? Absolute bangers. That overworld theme still pops into my head randomly. If you missed this one back in the day, it’s aged way better than most 16-bit RPGs. Just be ready for some brutal late-game difficulty spikes.
