King Arthur’s World on SNES is one of those weird little strategy gems that never got enough love. At first glance, it looks like a simple medieval puzzle game—you’re just moving knights, archers, and wizards around, right? But then you realize every level’s a tactical headache in the best way. Lose a single unit, and suddenly your whole plan falls apart.
The terrain actually matters—ladders, water, cliffs—and enemies don’t just rush you blindly. Some levels feel like chess with swords, others like a frantic scramble to rescue villagers before fire arrows rain down. The pixel art’s charmingly janky, too—Merlin looks like he’s perpetually annoyed, and the knights have these tiny, determined sprites.
It’s not perfect (good luck figuring out some mechanics without trial and error), but there’s something satisfying about finally cracking a level that’s stomped you five times in a row. If you like strategy games that make you think instead of just spamming units, this one’s worth dusting off.
