Man, Ken Griffey Jr. on Game Boy takes me back. You boot it up, and bam—you're staring at that classic pixelated diamond, the crowd noise buzzing in your tiny speaker. The controls are dead simple: swing, pitch, run. But don’t let that fool you—timing a home run with Griffey’s smooth swing still feels like magic, even now.
I remember spending way too long in the lineup screen, trying to decide if I wanted to play as the Mariners (obviously) or mess around with some other team. Pitching’s weirdly satisfying too—you’ve got to nail the meter just right, or you’ll end up serving meatballs. And yeah, the AI will punish you for that.
It’s not flashy by today’s standards, but there’s something about the way it captures the rhythm of baseball—the tension before a pitch, the scramble to tag a runner out. Still holds up if you ask me.
