I first played The Immortal on the NES back in 1990, a game published by Electronic Arts. You control a wizard's apprentice, navigating a labyrinthine dungeon screen by screen. Your main goal is to find and rescue your captured mentor, Mordamir. The gameplay is a mix of careful exploration and tense combat; you use a sword, a bow, and a handful of spells to survive. Many rooms are deathtraps, requiring you to observe patterns or solve logic puzzles to proceed without being killed instantly. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, because a single wrong move can mean a quick death. Playing it feels like a constant, careful calculation against a world designed to catch you off guard.
