Hydro Thunder on N64 is pure chaotic boat racing—no subtlety, just ridiculous speed and waves trying to flip you over. You pick these over-the-top speedboats (the one with the shark mouth is objectively the coolest) and blast through wild tracks like a stormy Arctic passage or a temple ruins course with geysers erupting under you.
The water physics are janky in that classic N64 way—hitting a wave wrong sends you spinning like a drunk dolphin, but somehow that just adds to the fun. The shortcuts are hidden in the dumbest places, like behind waterfalls or inside whirlpools, and finding them feels like cheating in the best possible way.
It’s not exactly a deep sim, but who cares when you’re doing 90mph past a flipping T-Rex skeleton? Still holds up if you’re into arcade racers that don’t take themselves seriously.
