Gremlins 2 on the NES came out in 1990, developed and published by Sunsoft. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins on the system, games that tried to capture the feel of a film with the limited technology of the time. You control Gizmo, the small furry hero, through a series of multi-floor levels inside a high-tech skyscraper. Your main goal is to fight your way to the Gremlin Control Centre to stop the monstrous creatures. The game plays from a top-down perspective, and you move screen by screen clearing out enemies like spiders and bat gremlins. You start with just a simple attack, but you can collect items like a bow and arrow or matches that give you more offensive options. Between levels, you can visit Mr. Wing's shop, which appears randomly in certain rooms, to spend collected crystals on power-ups and health. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can spike sharply, especially during the boss fights that cap off each stage. Navigating the maze-like floors while managing your limited weapon durability creates a tense, sometimes frustrating experience.
