Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls on the GBA is basically a love letter to old-school RPG fans. You start off with the first game—simple, straightforward, but still charming with its four Warriors of Light and that classic "crystals in trouble" setup. The turn-based combat feels a little stiff by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about grinding your way through dungeons and watching your party slowly overpower everything.
Then there’s FFII, which is… weird, honestly. No traditional level-ups—your stats grow based on what you actually do in battle, so if you spam spells, your magic gets stronger. It’s janky but kind of fascinating once you get the hang of it. The remaster tweaks some of the original’s brutal difficulty, so it’s way less punishing than the NES version.
Both games have that classic Final Fantasy vibe—chocobos, airships, and all the pixelated charm you’d expect. If you’re into retro RPGs, this is a solid way to kill some time on a long bus ride.
