Duke Nukem: Zero Hour is one of those weird N64 shooters that tried something different—third-person action with a time-travel gimmick. You’re still Duke, cracking one-liners and blasting aliens, but now you’re hopping between the Wild West, medieval castles, and even a dystopian future. The controls take some getting used to (this is an N64 shooter, after all), but once you adjust, there’s something oddly satisfying about dual-wielding shotguns while riding a hoverbike.
The levels are surprisingly big for the era, with hidden areas and destructible stuff everywhere. Some of the weapons feel a little janky, but who cares when you’ve got a shrink ray that turns enemies into tiny, stompable pests? It’s not the most polished Duke game, but if you’re into late-’90s cheese and chaotic shooters, it’s a blast. Just don’t expect it to play like modern stuff—this is pure, unfiltered N64 energy.
