Dragon Ball Z: Goku Densetsu is one of those weird little DS games that flew under the radar but actually has some neat ideas. It's a card battler where you relive Goku's story from Saiyan saga all the way to Buu—except instead of button-mashing fights, you're playing energy cards to pull off combos and special moves.
The first time I played, I got wrecked by Raditz because I kept wasting my Ki cards too early. Turns out you gotta balance attack timing with defense, almost like a simplified version of those old DBZ board games. The sprite work's surprisingly crisp for a DS title, and hearing those classic sound effects when you pull off a Kamehameha never gets old.
It's not perfect—some fights drag if you don't draw the right cards—but there's something satisfying about outsmarting Cell with a well-timed Senzu bean play. If you ever wanted DBZ battles to feel more tactical than mashy, this is worth dusting off your R4 for.
