Cliffhanger On GB is one of those classic Game Boy platformers that feels simple at first—just jump, climb, avoid enemies—but gets surprisingly tense when you're halfway up a cliff with no safety net. The pixel art has that rough-but-charming early handheld look, and the controls are tight enough that when you fall (and you will), it always feels like your fault.
What I like is how the levels slowly introduce new hazards—first it's just gaps, then crumbling ledges, then birds that swoop in out of nowhere. By the third stage, you're timing jumps between moving platforms while dodging projectiles, and suddenly that "simple" game has you gripping the Game Boy like a lifeline. The music’s got that classic bleep-bloop energy too—catchy in a way only early portable games could be.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something satisfying about mastering its rhythm. You’ll probably beat it in an afternoon, but you’ll remember that one jump you barely made for way longer.
