About Cliffhanger
Cliffhanger on the Game Boy came out in 1993 from Sony Imagesoft, a time when licensed movie games were common on the handheld. It's based on the Sylvester Stallone film, and it fits right in with other action platformers of that era on the system.
You control Gabe Walker, a mountain ranger, navigating through snowy levels. Your main goal is to rescue hostages from a group of terrorists in a mountain fortress. The gameplay involves screen by screen exploration, climbing ice walls, and using a limited supply of pitons to create handholds. You also fight enemies with punches and kicks, and you collect health packs and extra pitons to survive. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with precise platforming required. It feels like a tense, methodical climb where every jump and resource matters.
