Okay, so Aidyn Chronicles is one of those N64 RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it came out late in the console’s life. But if you’re into old-school, slow-burn fantasy RPGs, this one’s got some weird charm.
You start off as this noble’s kid who gets dragged into a mess involving dark magic, and yeah, the story’s pretty standard fantasy fare. But the combat? It’s turn-based with this weird grid system where positioning actually matters. Took me a few fights to stop getting wrecked because I kept leaving my mages exposed.
Character building’s surprisingly deep—you’ve got skills that level up the more you use them, and magic feels legit powerful once you grind a bit. The world’s big, kinda janky, and the graphics haven’t aged great, but there’s something about the atmosphere that sticks with you. Just don’t expect Skyrim—this is pure late-’90s RPG clunk with a side of ambition.
If you’ve got the patience for N64-era quirks, it’s a neat time capsule of a game that tried way harder than most on the system.
