Man, Zool on GB takes me back—this was one of those Game Boy ports that somehow felt faster and crazier than the console versions. You play as this hyperactive ninja dude from another dimension, bouncing off walls, slicing through weird candy-themed enemies, and trying not to faceplant into spikes (which happens a lot at first). The controls are slippery in that classic '90s way—you’ll overshoot jumps until you get the rhythm down.
The music’s this weirdly catchy electronic chirp that sticks in your head, and the levels are short but packed with secrets. I remember getting stuck on the honeycomb stage for ages because I kept missing one hidden warp. It’s not the deepest platformer, but there’s something satisfying about nailing a perfect run once you memorize the enemy patterns. Just don’t expect mercy—this game loves throwing cheap hits at you.
If you’ve got a soft spot for janky, colorful retro platformers, Zool’s a solid time capsule. The screen crunch is real, though.
