Wizard of the Immortal is one of those Genesis games that feels like it got lost in time—in a good way. You start off as this robed wizard dude with a staff, and right away, the game throws these weird, dreamlike levels at you. The first stage has these floating platforms and enemies that look like they’re made of stained glass. It’s kinda trippy for a 16-bit game.

Spells are the main thing here. You’ve got fireballs (obviously), but also this weird homing lightning thing that zaps everything on screen. Took me a while to figure out the timing—some spells charge slower than others, and if you mess up, you’re stuck waiting while some skeleton archer pelts you from off-screen. Classic Genesis jank, but it grows on you.

The music’s got that early ‘90s synth vibe, all dramatic and echoey. Not quite Streets of Rage level, but it fits the whole “lonely wizard in a cursed world” thing. And yeah, the last boss is total nonsense—good luck figuring out his pattern without losing half your health first. If you’re into obscure retro action with a magic twist, this one’s worth dusting off.
