About Wetrix
Wetrix arrived on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, a puzzle game from the developer Zed Two. It was a different kind of title for the console, which was often dominated by 3D platformers and racing games. This one asked you to think in terms of terrain and water instead of jumps or speed.
You control an overhead view of a landscape, dropping geometric blocks to build up the edges of a basin. Your main objective is to catch and manage falling rain and snow, preventing the water from spilling over the sides. Two key mechanics define the play: you can use a bomb to blast a hole in your terrain to create a reservoir, and you must also watch for earthquakes that suddenly warp your carefully constructed walls. The pacing starts calmly but can become frantic as precipitation increases, demanding quick decisions about where to sculpt the land. It feels like a constant, engaging battle against the elements, where a single misjudged block can lead to a flood.
