Wave Race 64: Shindou Edition is basically the original game but with a few slick upgrades—mostly the rumble pack support, which makes those tight turns and choppy waves feel way more intense. The controls are a little tighter too, so if you remember the original feeling slightly floaty, this version fixes that without losing the arcade-y feel.
You’re still racing jet skis through wild water, dodging buoys (miss one and your speed tanks), and trying not to eat it on the waves. The physics are just unrealistic enough to be fun—you can pull off ridiculous mid-air tricks but still wipe out hard if you take a turn wrong. The tracks have this great mix of open stretches and tight channels, and the water actually reacts to your movements, which still feels impressive for an N64 game.
If you’ve played the original, the changes here are subtle but noticeable. If you haven’t, it’s basically the best way to experience one of the N64’s most underrated racers.
