Wario Land 3 is one of those weird, wonderful Game Boy Color gems where you’re not just running and jumping—you’re shoulder-bashing doors open, getting flattened into a pancake by boulders, and turning into zombie Wario when enemies bite you. The whole thing plays like a puzzle-platformer where your powers change depending on how enemies smack you around, which sounds gimmicky but somehow works perfectly.
Instead of a straight path, you’re dropped into this sprawling map full of locked doors and shortcuts. You’ll backtrack constantly, but in a good way—like when you finally get the ability to swim and realize there was a whole underwater section you missed earlier. The music’s catchy as hell too, especially the haunted house theme. It’s got that classic Nintendo charm, just with more greed and garlic breath.
If you’ve ever wanted a platformer where the hero gets stronger by getting hit, this is your game.
