WWF War Zone was one of those N64 wrestling games that felt like a big deal when it dropped. The graphics were a step up from anything we'd seen before—those wrestler models actually looked like their real-life counterparts, and the entrances? Pure late-'90s WWF spectacle. The first time I booted it up, I went straight for Stone Cold Steve Austin just to hear that glass shatter.
Gameplay’s a little stiff compared to later wrestling titles, but back then, pulling off a Rock Bottom or Undertaker’s Tombstone felt revolutionary. The Create-a-Wrestler mode was surprisingly deep for its time—spent way too many hours making some abomination with neon green tights and a ridiculous finisher. Matches get chaotic fast, especially in four-player mode where someone always ends up spamming chairs.
It’s definitely a nostalgia trip now, but if you remember watching RAW in ’98, this game hits different. Just don’t expect No Mercy-level polish.
