Twin Hawk is one of those old-school shooters that feels like it was designed to drain quarters at the arcade—but in the best way possible. You’re flying this beefy little fighter jet, weaving through waves of enemy planes while bullets fill the screen. The controls are tight, and the power-ups actually matter—grab the twin wingmen, and suddenly you’ve got backup firepower that makes a real difference.
What I love is how chaotic it gets without feeling unfair. One minute you’re picking off slow-moving bombers, the next you’re dodging a boss that takes up half the screen. The pixel art holds up, too—explosions have this satisfying chunky feel, and the music nails that classic Sega energy. It’s not the deepest shmup out there, but it’s got that addictive “one more try” pull when you barely scrape through a level.
If you’ve got a Genesis lying around (or an emulator), it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon. Just don’t blame me when you start humming the stage 1 theme for the rest of the day.
