I first found Tottemo! on a Japanese import Game Boy cartridge, released in 1990 by Epoch. It was one of those early puzzle games that felt distinct from the more common action titles of the time. You control a small, blocky character whose main goal is to tidy up each single-screen stage. The objective is straightforward: you must push every block in the room into its designated corner spot. Each stage is a self-contained puzzle, and you move from one to the next without any overworld or story to speak of.

You maneuver your character around the grid, shoving blocks one at a time. If you push a block against a wall or another block, it gets stuck, and you often have to reset the room. The challenge comes from the limited space and the fact that you cannot pull blocks, only push them. Planning your route is essential, as a single wrong move can trap you.
