Man, Tecmo Bowl on Game Boy takes me back. It’s the same stripped-down, fast-paced football action from the NES days, just crammed into that little gray brick. You pick your team—I always went with the Raiders because, well, speed—and then it’s just you, a tiny playbook, and a lot of juking pixelated defenders.
The controls are stupid simple: one button to pass, another to sprint. But that’s where the magic is. You’ll mess up a handoff, swear at the screen when your QB gets sacked, and then somehow break a 60-yard run with a running back who absolutely should not be that fast. The graphics are basic, sure, but there’s something satisfying about watching those little dudes shuffle across the field.
It’s not deep, but it’s the kind of game you fire up when you’ve got 10 minutes to kill and end up playing three full quarters. Perfect for bus rides or pretending to listen in class back in the day.
