Ever played one of those old-school dungeon crawlers where you're just thrown into a maze with zero hand-holding? Swords and Serpents is exactly that—a brutal but weirdly satisfying NES RPG where you control a party of four adventurers (or just one if you're feeling masochistic).
First thing you'll notice? The dungeons are dark, claustrophobic, and packed with monsters that don’t care if you’re still figuring out the controls. Spiders, skeletons, and those annoying floating eyes swarm you the second you step into a room. Combat’s simple—just swing your sword or cast spells—but managing four characters at once while your torch burns down adds this weird tension. Oh, and good luck mapping everything out on graph paper unless you’ve got a freakishly good memory.
It’s janky, unforgiving, and totally of its time—but there’s something weirdly addictive about pushing deeper into those 16 dungeons, even when the game’s actively trying to murder you. Just don’t blame me when you get lost for the third hour in a row.
