Sweet Home on the NES is one of those weird, dark gems that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day. You start off as a film crew exploring a haunted mansion—classic setup—but then it quickly turns into this tense survival horror with RPG elements. Limited inventory, creepy atmosphere, and actual permadeath if your characters bite it. The pixel art somehow makes everything even creepier, especially when you realize some rooms change when you revisit them.
Oh, and it’s basically the grandfather of Resident Evil—Capcom even reused ideas from it later. If you’re into old-school horror with a side of frustration (bring extra graph paper for mapping), this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect hand-holding.
