Super Tennis on SNES is one of those games that just feels right the moment you pick up the controller. The controls are stupidly simple—just a couple of buttons—but there’s this weird depth to the ball physics that makes every match unpredictable. I remember thinking it’d be another basic arcade-style tennis game, but then I kept whiffing shots because I didn’t account for spin or player momentum.
Matches start fast, with that satisfying thwack of a serve, and before long you’re scrambling to return a drop shot or trying to nail a down-the-line winner. The AI isn’t pushover either—even on medium difficulty, they’ll punish lazy shots. And yeah, the graphics are obviously 16-bit, but there’s something charming about the way the players slide into position or celebrate with a little fist pump.
It’s one of those games where you say “just one more match” and suddenly it’s been an hour. If you’ve got a buddy for doubles, even better. Super Tennis holds up way better than it has any right to.
