Super Robot Taisen on Game Boy is basically a dream mashup if you grew up glued to mecha anime. You’ve got Mazinger Z throwing rocket punches, Gundams sniping from across the map, and a bunch of other iconic bots I won’t spoil—half the fun is seeing who shows up. The first mission throws you right into grid-based tactical fights where positioning matters way more than I expected. Mess up, and some grunt in a Zaku will flank your heavy hitter.
Upgrades come fast—after a couple battles, you’re already tweaking armor or swapping out beam sabers for something heavier. The sprite work’s surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy title, especially when a character unleashes their signature move and the screen flashes with a chunky-but-satisfying animation. Story’s full of anime-tier drama between missions, but honestly? I mostly skipped it to get back to customizing my squad. If you’ve ever wanted to pit your favorite robots against each other, this is the closest thing to a playground for that.
