Super Robot Taisen 64 is one of those N64 gems that flew under the radar for a lot of people, but if you're into mechs and turn-based strategy, it's a total time sink. Right off the bat, you're thrown into these massive robot brawls with a roster that pulls from classic anime series—think Gundam, Mazinger, and more. The grid-based combat feels weighty, like you're actually maneuvering these hulking machines, and the customization goes deep enough that you can tweak your squad for hours if you want.
The story’s got that classic Super Robot Taisen vibe—big stakes, dramatic speeches, and way more dialogue than you’d expect from a mech game. Some of the mission objectives can get brutal, especially if you’re trying to unlock secret units, but pulling off a perfect strategy feels ridiculously satisfying. Just be ready for some serious trial-and-error moments.
It’s not the prettiest N64 game out there, but the sprite work holds up, and there’s something weirdly charming about watching blocky robots unleash over-the-top attacks. If you’ve got the patience for old-school tactical RPGs, this one’s worth digging up.
