Super Battleship on the Sega Genesis is basically the board game cranked up to 11—except now you get explosions and that sweet, crunchy 16-bit sound when you land a hit. You start off placing your ships (good luck remembering where you put the destroyer later), then it’s all about hunting down the enemy fleet with methodical grid strikes or wild guesses, depending on how impatient you are.
The AI isn’t messing around—it’ll punish lazy patterns fast, so you actually have to think like a naval commander. Nothing beats the tension of those last few squares when both of you are down to one ship, frantically taking shots in the dark. And yeah, the graphics are pixelated, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching those little ship sprites explode into blocky flames.
If you’ve got a buddy, the two-player mode turns into an all-night shouting match. Just try not to throw your controller when they somehow nail your battleship on their third turn.
