Man, Star Wars: Episode I - Racer on N64 still holds up. You jump straight into the cockpit of these rickety podracers that somehow feel both fragile and ridiculously fast. The first race throws you into that dusty canyon from the movie, and yeah—you’ll wipe out a lot at first. Those turns are brutal until you get the hang of drifting.
What’s cool is how each pod handles differently. Some are twitchy, others plow through turns like tanks, and good luck unlocking Sebulba’s ride without eating walls for half an hour. The tracks get wild too—ice planets with slippery curves, lava pits that’ll melt your engine if you scrape the rails. Graphics were mind-blowing for the N64, and that screechy engine noise when you boost? Pure nostalgia.
It’s not just about speed, either. Between races, you’re tweaking engines and swapping parts like some backwater mechanic, trying to balance power without blowing your pod to pieces on the next straightaway. Still one of the best arcade racers from that era, hands down.
