Man, Spider-Man on SNES is such a weird little time capsule. You start off swinging through these chunky pixelated streets, and the controls take a second to click—hold the button to shoot web, release to swing, which feels oddly realistic for a 16-bit game. The first level throws you right into a rooftop chase with some goons, and man, those wall-climbing mechanics are janky in the best way.
What surprised me was how many villains they crammed in here—Kingpin, Venom, even freaking Carnage shows up. The boss fights are brutal in that classic SNES way where you die a bunch before figuring out the pattern. And yeah, the voice samples are hilariously compressed ("Shockeeeeer!"), but that just adds to the charm.
It’s not perfect—some of the platforming sections are downright cruel—but there’s something about the way it nails Spidey’s movement that keeps me coming back. If you’ve got a soft spot for ‘90s superhero games, this one’s worth dusting off.
