SimCity on SNES is one of those games that makes you feel like a tiny god—until your city inevitably catches fire or riots break out because you skimped on police stations. You start with an empty grid and a tight budget, plopping down zones while praying people actually move in. The first time a tornado wipes out half your downtown, you’ll just sit there staring at the screen like, "Well, that’s my afternoon gone."
The pixel art somehow makes power plants and traffic jams weirdly charming, and there’s something satisfying about watching little clusters of houses grow into skyscrapers—assuming you don’t bankrupt yourself first. The SNES version’s got this weirdly chill soundtrack too, which almost makes up for the stress of realizing you forgot to build a single fire department. Almost.
It’s still the best way to learn that city planning is basically just juggling disasters while pretending you meant to do that.
