Robot Ponkottsu 64 is one of those weird, charming N64 games that never left Japan—and honestly, it’s a shame. You play as a little robot exploring these colorful, slightly surreal islands, solving puzzles and collecting parts to upgrade yourself. The controls take a minute to get used to (it’s got that early 3D platformer jank), but once you do, there’s something oddly satisfying about hopping between floating islands and piecing together how everything connects.
The art style’s got this playful, toy-like vibe—everything’s bright and blocky, like you’re wandering through a kid’s playset. And the puzzles? Some are straightforward, but others make you stop and actually think, especially when you’re trying to figure out which upgrades to prioritize. I kept getting stuck on this one island with moving platforms until I realized I needed to tweak my jump height first.
It’s not perfect—the camera fights you sometimes, and the dialogue’s all in Japanese—but if you’re into quirky, exploratory games, it’s a neat little time capsule. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
