Man, Rise of the Robots was supposed to be this huge deal back in the day—gorgeous pre-rendered sprites, "AI that learns your moves," all that hype. Then you actually play it and... yeah. The SNES version looks decent (for the time), but the fighting feels stiff as a board. You’re this ECO35-2 cyborg punching through a lineup of other robots, and the whole "adaptive AI" thing? Mostly just enemies turtling up after a few hits.
Weirdly, the soundtrack slaps—moody synth stuff that almost makes up for the clunky controls. And that Supervisor guy? Total non-event as a final boss. Still, there’s something oddly charming about how hard it tries to be cutting-edge while barely functioning as a fighting game. Just don’t go in expecting Street Fighter.
