Rayman 2 on Game Boy Color is one of those rare handheld ports that actually holds up. You start off in this weird, dreamlike world where evil pirates have wrecked everything—Robo-Pirates, of all things—and Rayman’s just trying to put things back together. The controls feel surprisingly smooth for a GBC game, with tight jumps and these little hovering spins that save you from missing platforms.
It’s got that classic 2D platforming vibe but with these weirdly charming 3D-rendered sprites. The levels are packed with secrets, like hidden cages to free your buddies or bonus stages where you ride on a missile (because why not). The music’s got this bouncy, almost hypnotic quality—I still catch myself humming the Fairy Glade theme sometimes.
It’s not perfect—some of the later levels get brutal with the precision jumps—but it’s way more fun than a GBC game about a limbless hero has any right to be. If you dig old-school platformers, this one’s a solid time.
