Ranma Nibun No Ichi: Kakugeki is one of those weird little Game Boy fighters that somehow nails the chaos of the anime. You pick from Ranma (both versions, obviously), Akane swinging that mallet, Ryoga with his umbrella—all the usual suspects. The moves are simple but satisfying, like Ranma’s fireball or Kuno’s ridiculous sword flailing.
It’s janky in that classic early fighting game way—hit detection can be iffy, and the AI loves to spam—but that almost adds to the charm. Matches feel like actual slapstick brawls from the show, especially when someone gets knocked into the pond and suddenly you’re fighting a panda or a duck. The sprites are tiny but full of personality, and the music’s got that crunchy Game Boy sound.
Not gonna lie, it’s not the deepest fighter, but if you grew up on Ranma ½, there’s something weirdly perfect about it. You’ll probably play a few rounds, laugh at how dumb it is, and then realize you’ve been at it for an hour.
