Pepenga Pengo is one of those Sega Genesis gems that somehow feels both simple and totally frantic at the same time. You play as this little penguin dude sliding around ice mazes, pushing blocks to crush enemies—except half the time you accidentally trap yourself in a corner and panic when the snow monsters close in.
The controls are stupidly simple (just slide and push), but the mazes get sneakier as you go. I love how the music speeds up when enemies get close, like the game’s actively trolling you. And those crunchy pixel explosions when you squish a bad guy? Still satisfying decades later.
It’s the kind of game where you’ll fail spectacularly at first, then suddenly pull off some ridiculous chain of block smashes like a penguin ninja. Definitely better with a friend yelling at you from the couch.
