Onegai Monsters is one of those weird, charming N64 RPGs that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this oddball mix of monster collecting and turn-based battles that actually works. You start off in this little village where some kid hands you a weird orb, and next thing you know, you’re recruiting these goofy-looking creatures to fight for you. The designs are equal parts cute and slightly unsettling, like someone took Pokémon and ran it through a late-'90s anime filter.
Combat’s straightforward at first—pick moves, watch your monsters duke it out—but there’s a sneaky layer of strategy once you realize certain types counter others. I wasted way too much time trying to brute-force my way through early fights before figuring that out. The pixelated N64 graphics give it that nostalgic, slightly janky vibe, but honestly, it adds to the charm. If you’re into obscure RPGs or just want something different from the usual N64 lineup, this one’s worth digging up.
