Neon Genesis Evangelion on N64 is one of those weird, janky, but weirdly compelling mech games that only the late '90s could produce. You're thrown right into piloting an Eva—clunky controls and all—against those creepy Angels, and somehow, the awkward movement kinda adds to the tension. The story hits major beats from the anime, but don't expect deep lore dives; it's more about smashing through waves of enemies with that satisfying (if slightly delayed) punch animation.
Visually, it’s peak N64—blocky textures, foggy draw distances, but the Eva designs somehow still look cool. The strategy bits between battles feel tacked on, but hey, at least they tried something different. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s a nostalgia trip worth booting up, just don’t go in expecting polished mech combat.
