NFL Blitz - Special Edition is basically football if someone took all the rules, threw them out the window, and cranked the chaos up to 11. Within seconds of booting it up, you’re launching your QB 20 feet in the air for a desperation pass while three 400-pound linebackers try to clothesline him mid-flight. The tackles are brutal, the plays are ridiculous, and the scoreboard looks like a basketball game by halftime.
This N64 version adds some extra flair—new special moves, slightly sharper graphics, and a few tweaks that make the arcade madness feel even smoother. It’s not a sim, and that’s the point. You’re here to spike the ball in someone’s face, not worry about pass interference. If you’ve got a friend nearby, the two-player mode turns into pure, unhinged fun—just try not to throw your controller after getting hit by the same unstoppable blitz for the third time in a row.
Still one of the best couch-competitive sports games from the era, hands down.
