Man, Mortal Kombat on SNES takes me back. The pixelated blood (well, the "sweat" version if you had the censored cart) and those crunchy digitized sprites still hold up. First thing you notice? Scorpion’s spear actually looks kinda janky by today’s standards, but when you yank someone across the screen with it for the first time? Pure magic.
Liu Kang’s bicycle kick feels overpowered until you realize everyone’s got some cheap move – Sub-Zero’s freeze into uppercut combo is basically a rite of passage. And yeah, the fatalities are clunky to input, but nailing Reptile’s invisibility glitch or finally pulling off Raiden’s electrocution after like 20 tries? Worth it.
This port’s got that weird SNES vibe where the colors pop way harder than the arcade, and the music somehow makes the Pit stage even more intense. Just don’t expect the arcade-perfect experience – this is the version where you and your cousin argue whether that was actually a hit or not. Still one of the best ways to settle playground arguments.
