Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is that weird N64 game where they tried turning MK into a side-scroller. You play as Sub-Zero before he was just another fighter in the roster—back when his story actually mattered. The controls are janky as hell (this was Midway’s first crack at platforming), but there’s something weirdly charming about ice-blasting ninjas while awkwardly jumping between ledges.
It’s not just button-mashing, though. You’ll actually have to think your way through some of these levels, freezing enemies to use as platforms or figuring out how to bypass traps. The story’s surprisingly deep for an MK game, diving into Sub-Zero’s origins and his whole Lin Kuei drama. Just don’t expect it to play like the mainline fighters—this one’s more of a clunky, ambitious experiment.
If you can get past the stiff movement, there’s a solid challenge here for die-hard MK fans who want more than just fatalities.
