McDonaldland on Game Boy is one of those weird, charming relics from the '90s where someone looked at Ronald McDonald and thought, "Yeah, this clown needs a platformer." You jump through candy-colored levels collecting fries and dodging sentient hamburgers—because of course you do. The controls are stiff by today’s standards, but there’s something oddly satisfying about bouncing on giant apples or outrunning the Hamburglar’s goons.
It’s not deep, but the pixel art has this goofy energy, like a Saturday morning cartoon that got turned into a game. I won’t lie, some of the later levels get frustrating (why does Grimace move like that?), but it’s pure nostalgia fuel if you grew up with a Game Boy in your hands. Just don’t expect it to hold up like Mario.
Honestly, half the fun is laughing at how bizarre the whole premise is now. You’ll finish it in an afternoon, but it’s a weird little time capsule.
