Marsupilami on the Genesis is one of those weird, charming platformers that feels like it fell out of a cartoon—because, well, it kinda did. You play as this stretchy-tailed, spotted creature bouncing through jungles, caves, and villages, swinging from vines like a hyperactive monkey. The controls take a second to click (that tail whip feels awkward at first), but once you get the rhythm, it’s oddly satisfying to fling yourself around.
What sticks with me are the little details—the way Marsupilami’s ears flop when he runs, or how some enemies just look ridiculous (there’s a fish in a floating bowl that chases you, for some reason). The music’s upbeat in that early ‘90s way, all bouncy synths and percussion that somehow never gets old. It’s not the hardest platformer out there, but some of the later levels get sneaky with hidden traps and tricky jumps.
If you’re into offbeat retro games with personality, this one’s a solid time capsule. Just don’t blame me when you hum the jungle theme for days.
