I first played The Lost Vikings on the Sega Genesis back in 1992. It was developed by Silicon & Synapse, the company that would later become Blizzard. On a system known for action games, this one stood out for its methodical, puzzle based approach.

You control three vikings, each with a unique ability. Erik runs fast and can break certain walls with a headbutt, Baleog fights enemies with his sword and bow, and Olaf can block attacks with his shield and use it as a glider. The goal is to guide all three vikings to the exit of each stage. You switch between them constantly, using their skills in combination to overcome obstacles. The game is a series of single screen puzzles that require careful planning; a wrong move often means a viking gets hurt or falls into a trap. The difficulty is steady, demanding patience more than quick reflexes. It feels like solving a complex machine where every character is a necessary tool.
